ICON Fitness makes the HealthRider treadmill series, as well as household brands like NordicTrack, Gold’s Gym, and Weider. But how does HealthRider stack up against other brands? If you’re in the market for a new treadmill, you may have run across this popular brand while shopping for your new exercise equipment.

Does exercising on a treadmill feel like torture to you? You’re not alone. In fact, it’s natural to feel this way because the treadmill started out as a punishment for prisoners. In the 1800s, a British engineer by the name Sir William Cubitt invented a machine known as the “tread wheel” to reform idle and stubborn convicts. The prisoners would work the machine to generate power, pump water, and grind grain (hence the name ‘treadmill’). And they’d go at it for up to eight hours a day.

This, combined with a poor diet, led to injuries and illnesses — as well as some toned glutes and legs. But it didn’t stop the British wardens from using it. Use of the machine continued up to the late 19th century.

Today, trainers have happily taken the place of prison wardens. They use treadmills like the HealthRider treadmill to help people stay in shape.

Although the treadmill is quite challenging, it’s one of the most effective pieces of equipment for weight loss. However, just like any other gym equipment, you need to invest in a high-quality treadmill in order to reap a lot of benefits and also get value for your money. The HealthRider treadmill from ICON fitness is a popular model. But how is its quality?

What is a HealthRider Treadmill?

ICON Health and Fitness has been in business for over 25 years. They’re behind some of the top fitness brands today, including Gold’s Gym, NordicTrack, and Weider. And over the years they’ve managed to consistently produce quality workout equipment. Their HealthRider treadmills are one of their most popular equipment lines. However, the HealthRider treadmill brand can vary significantly from model to model in terms of quality.

HealthRider Treadmill Specifications

There are several features and qualities you should expect from every HealthRider treadmill. These specifications are what make the Heathrider treadmill brand stand out from other major brands in the market.

iFit technology

Every HealthRider treadmill has the popular ICON iFit technology. The most advanced treadmills from this company have iFit Live technology, which makes it possible to connect the treadmill to the internet. This allows you to get customized nutrition advice and workouts. It also makes it possible for you to have an interactive workout session. For instance, you can race against your Facebook friends. This technology can also be used to map out different routes using the Google Map app.

Incline and decline

Incline and decline are important features in all treadmills. In HealthRider treadmills, the slope is automated with the maximum ranging from 10 percent to 15 percent. The top models also have an automated decline of up to 3 percent

Workout variety

Apart from the iFit technology, HealthRider treadmills have several built-in programs that allow you to change up your workout. However, there are models such as the HealthRider HT9t that don’t have any additional programs.

Motors

Healthrider treadmills come with different motors, and the quality can vary. So, make sure you read the manual and warranty carefully before you purchase any model.

Tracks

HealthRider treadmill tracks are not the same for all models. Because of this, you need to read the details carefully. The best treadmill has a 20-inch by 60-inch track, and the cheapest has an 18-inch by 50-inch track. Also, the tracks of the more expensive models have a special coat to increase longevity.

Capacity

The company claims all their treadmills can carry up to 350 pounds. However, you should always do your research. Read the details carefully and always make sure that the treadmill can accommodate your weight.

Speed

A HealthRider treadmill with a long track has a speed of up to 12 miles per hour. That’s faster than a lot of other treadmills, which top off at 10 miles per hour.

How do HealthRider Treadmills stack up to their claims?

ICON Health and Fitness has produced several treadmills under the HealthRider brand. The company has made many claims about their treadmills, but are they really all they’re cracked up to be?

H190T Treadmill

This is a mid-budget HealthRider treadmill. And at that budget, the H190T Treadmill has a lot to offer. First of all, this HealthRider Treadmill features 32 workout apps. These apps enable you to choose between calorie burning, high-intensity workouts, or speed. You can also use the iFit technology to find other workout options if you need to.

The treadmill also features a 10-inch full-color touchscreen that displays everything with the utmost clarity. When you buy this treadmill, you get lifetime protection for the motor and frame. The other parts get five-year protection, and labor gets two years of coverage. This shows how much ICON believes in this product.

The only downside of this treadmill is that it does not have a shelf where you can place your phone or book. However, overall, the treadmill lives up to all the claims made by the manufacturer. It received mediocre reviews at treadmillreviews.net.

H110T Treadmill

The H110T treadmill is very similar to the H190T treadmill. The difference is that this treadmill has fewer built-in apps (only 24) and has a smaller screen compared to H190T. The H110T also features iFit technology, a 60-inch track, incline and decline, and adjustable cushioning. The treadmill track can also be folded to save on floor space.

Similar to the H110T, new users get two years of labor, a lifetime of protection for motor and frame, and five years for other parts. Although this treadmill has amazing features, it lacks basic treadmill features like a bottle holder, a fan, and shelves. Treadmillreviews.net had lukewarm feelings about this treadmill.

H50 Crosswalk SL Treadmill

The H50 Crosswalk SL Treadmill is one of the cheapest HealthRider treadmills. This treadmill is designed to not only help you tone your lower body but also your arms. It has movable arm bars that you can move as you run.

While this is a great idea, this treadmill is not the best for several reasons. For one, it uses outdated technology. For example, instead of iFit Live, it uses iFit cards that are sold separately and only provide eight weeks of workouts. In comparison, you can download as many workouts as you want with iFit Live.

The other thing that makes it less desirable is the fact that you only get a 90-day warranty on parts. This, to us, shows a possible lack of confidence on the manufacturer’s side.

Also, the track is too small. It is only 18 inches by 50 inches, which makes it suitable for small trainees only. The H50 Crosswalk SL Treadmill is not the best treadmill if you want something high quality and durable. Treadmillreviews.net wasn’t fond of this model.

How do HealthRider Treadmills Compare to Other Major Brands?

Before you dismiss any of the above HealthRider treadmills, it’s essential to know how they compare to some of the major brands in the market to make an informed decision.

How we reviewed

To help you make the right choice, we compared our HealthRider treadmill models with some of the top brands on the market. We checked their features and found out what users have to say about this product. In addition to this, we compared warranties and the overall durability of the treadmills.

NordicTrack T 6.5 S Treadmill

[amazon box=”B0193V3DJ6″ template= “horizontal”]

The T 6.5 S Treadmill by NordicTrack is one of the most popular treadmills on the market. Just like most of the HealthRider treadmills, this treadmill has iFit technology that makes it possible for you to customize your workouts to your liking.

In addition to this, it has a track that measures 20 inches by 50 inches. It also has a console sound system that allows you to plug in your MP3 player and listen to some music as you work out. The treadmill also has a digital incline of up to 10 percent and a 5-inch display.

This NordicTrack is a good option, but it has very few features compared to the H110T and H190T. However, it is a better option compared to the H50 Crosswalk SL Treadmill.

AFG Sport 5.5AT Treadmill

[amazon box=”B01LWAKT29″ template= “horizontal”]

The AFG Sport 5.5AT Treadmill is also among the leading treadmills on the market. This treadmill features a running track measuring 20 inches by 55 inches, and an incline power motor that adjusts from 0 to 10 percent fast and quietly. In addition to this, the treadmill has comfortable cushioning that makes it possible to replicate a natural running surface.

The AFG model is also easy to assemble and has a powerful motor that is backed by a lifetime warranty. You get one year for labor and parts as well. The treadmill has a capacity of 300 pounds.

The AFG Sport 5.5AT Treadmill is quite similar to the H110T and H190T. However, these HealthRider treadmills offer a longer period of protection and labor. They also have a long track. The only advantage this treadmill has over them is that it’s more affordable. It is, however, better than the H50 Crosswalk SL Treadmill, which doesn’t have most of the features that the AFG Sport 5.5AT Treadmill does.

XTERRA TR150 Treadmill

[amazon box=”B01M0L0D90″ template= “horizontal”]

TR150 Treadmill by XTERRA Fitness is also among the top rated treadmills on Amazon. The treadmill has a running surface that measures 16 inches by 50 inches, a 5-inch LCD display screen, a speed range of 0.5 to 10 miles per hour, and 12 preset programs. It also features three manual incline settings.

However, compared to all three HealthRider treadmills, this treadmill is not worth the investment for several reasons.

First of all, it is too small, which makes it unsuitable for bigger and taller trainees. In addition to this, this treadmill is incompatible with iFit technology. Lastly, it doesn’t offer a lot of intensity in terms of workouts due to the limited incline setting options. Therefore, you are better off with a HealthRider Treadmill.

Ancheer App Control Treadmill

[amazon box=”B08MKW1WX1″ template= “horizontal”]

A lot of people seem to love the App Control Treadmill by Ancheer. One of the best features of this treadmill is the Smartphone App Connection that allows you to pair to a free to download app known as FitShow. The app is available for both iOS and Android. The app not only gives you workout variations but also tracks and keeps your workout data.

The treadmill also features 12 preset workout programs and a heart sensor to monitor your progress. In addition to this, it has three manual incline settings, and it is designed to drop softly so as not to affect your floor. The treadmill has a speed of up to 7.5 miles per hour and comes with a one year warranty for the frame and motor.

All of the HealthRider treadmills are better than this one for several reasons. First, they have more workout variations thanks to the iFit technology. Next, they have more incline settings and also have a better warranty since they also offer a warranty for other parts and also labor.

The only advantage the App Control Treadmill has over the Heathrider treadmills is that it is more affordable.

Is HeathRider Treadmill a Yay or Nay?

Based on these comparisons, it is clear that the H110T and H190T HealthRider Treadmills are great options. The H110T and H190T both offer you several workout variations. Apart from this, they also have longer tracks and larger display screens. The incline/decline feature on a HealthRider treadmill is also better because there are several settings, which make the treadmills suitable for people of different fitness levels.

Last but not least, iFit technology makes it possible for you to connect with your fit friends and family, which makes it more fun. It’s important to note, though, that there appears to be a large difference in quality and customer satisfaction with the cheaper HealthRider models. So research and choose wisely.

The only treadmill we wouldn’t recommend is the H50 Crosswalk SL Treadmill. This treadmill is not only too small but also lacks essential features that can make your workout less effective.
